A 17-year-old man was referred from his optometrist due to complaints of “seeing everything through grainy static interference in both eyes”, which he first noticed two years prior to presentation. This static vision was constant and more obvious in light-coloured environments, such as looking at a white wall.
Meet Dr. Michael DeStefano, a Neuro-Developmental Optometrist based in Arlington Heights, Illinois, who specializes in both developmental & neurological medical cases.
As a Neuro-Optometrist, Dr. DeStefano works with various populations, including but not limited to patients with Autism, Down Syndrome, and vision problems that impact learning. Dr. DeStefano also performs regular eye exams for children and offers myopia control, slowing down nearsightedness progression.
Visual snow syndrome (VSS) is a relatively rare, unusual and enigmatic medical condition (1–4). It frequently occurs in patients with concussion/mild traumatic brain injury (C/mTBI) and other brain-related abnormalities [1–7]. VSS presents with a constellation of visual and non-visual problems.
