“Hello. My name is Amirali Pejman. I’m 24 years old from Iran. I’m a TEFL Student at the MA Level. Here’s how my visual snow started: after going through a stressful week, I developed some floaters in both eyes which made me really anxious and upset. I visited several ophthalmologists and they all said I had to ignore them and there is no safe cure for them.
Being so anxious and upset about my eye floaters, I decided to go to a psychiatrist who said I suffer from OCD and I am too obsessed about my eye floaters. He suggested taking Lexapro (SSRI) antidepressant. After taking that pill for a week, I noticed static, intensive bfep, trails, ghosting etc. So I am almost certain taking escitalopram along with Sertraline was the cause of my visual snow.
As for the initial fear that visual snow gave me, I was so panicked that I went to a doctor for an MRI scan, I also did a blood check and the results came back normal. As the days went by and I did more research about VSS, I found the visual snow initiative page and also a facebook group and realized I’m not the only one who is dealing with this condition. I hope a treatment will come out for visual snow because this really is a life altering condition and the fears associated with the symptoms can take over anyone’s life.
I think what has helped me a bit as for dealing with visual snow is Clonazepam; it decreases the intensity of the static and helps me overcome the anxiety.”
